At approximately 11 PM Friday  an officer from the Cumberland Police Department stopped a vehicle on Virginia Avenue for an equipment violation.  The stopping officer was suspicious of the operator and passengers actions and requested a K9 officer to conduct a free air sniff.  The exterior free air sniff was conducted and the K9 showed a positive alert for the presence of the odor of drugs.  A probable cause search was conducted and officers located two separate locations in the vehicle containing suspected crystal methamphetamine. As a result both Chelsy Rose Wilt and Barbara Jane Sirbaugh were taken into custody.  They were transported to police headquarters for processing.  Later in the shift both subjects were taken before the District Court Commissioner where they were both released pending trial in District Court.

On 01/15/2016 Cumberland Police officers arrested two local men on CDS related charges after a traffic stop downtown.  While on routine patrol, a Cumberland City Police officer stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on a S. Centre Street parking lot.  The officer contacted the operator and a passenger in the vehicle and requested a K-9 respond to the scene.  A K-9 free air sniff of the vehicle was conducted which indicated the presence of CDS.  A search of the vehicle and occupants resulted in the arrest of both occupants and the recovery of suspected Heroin, prescription Oxycodone and CDS paraphernalia.  As a result Matthew William Hare, 25, of Cresaptown and Logan Tanner Nies, 21, of Cumberland were arrested and transported to Cumberland Police Headquarters where they were charged with the following:

Matthew W. Hare:

Possession of CDS : Not Marijuana – 2 counts

Possession of CDS Paraphernalia – 1 count

Logan T. Nies:

Possession of CDS: Not Marijuana – 1 count

Possession of CDS: Paraphernalia – 2 counts

Both Hare and Nies were taken for a preliminary hearing before a District Court Commissioner.  Both were released on their personal recognizance pending trial.
