Two Arrests Made In Stabbing Incident

On Saturday, 12:20 a.m., the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence located in the 100 block of E. First Street in reference to an assault.  Dispatch advised that one victim was stabbed with a knife.  Upon officers arrival contact was made with the stabbing victim who stated that he heard arguing outside on the street and when he walked outside he saw a group of subjects approaching his two adult sons.  The stabbing victim stated that the subjects charged after them and attacked him and his two sons.  He stated that he was stabbed with a knife, officers observed a stab wound to the victims upper right arm.  This victim was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by the Cumberland Fire Department Ambulance for treatment of a non life-threatening injury. The two other victims both stated that they were outside their residence and walking to their car when the group approached them and began assaulting them.  One of these victims was also transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment of non life-threatening injuries resulting from the assault. Officers searched the area for the suspects after obtaining a description.  Two suspects were located a short distance away and were able to be positively identified by a victim of the assault.  Wyatt Samuel Ashby and Marcah Shy Cheeves were both placed under arrest and transported to Police Headquarters.

 

Arrested:

 

Wyatt Samuel Ashby – 19 – Cumberland, MD.  Ashby was held at the Allegany County Detention Center on $10,000.00.

 

Marcah Shy Cheeves – 18 – Cumberland, MD.  Cheeves was held at the Allegany County Detention Center on a temporary commitment until his attorney can be present for his initial appearance.

 

Charges:

 

Both were charged with the following;

 

1. First degree assault.

2. Three counts of second degree assault.

3. Reckless endangerment.
