January 31st, 2012 by WCBC Radio

Animal lovers in the community are not at all happy with Judge Tim Finan's sentencing of a city man to 100 hours of community service at the Allegany County Animal Shelter. The sentence was in connection with the taping, muzzling and abandoning of a 10-month-old dog last March that affectionately became know to area residents as "Ducky". Ricky A. Adams was sentenced to two 90-day sentences that Judge Finan then suspended. The judge placed Adams on supervised probation for three years with the conditions that he perform community service at the Shelter. Shelter Director Carl Brubaker tells WCBC News that the unique sentence does create some issues…

this guy is not michael Vick. what he did was cruel and to give him permission to hurt other animals is playing with fire. we know his mother keeps about 7 other dogs in an abandoned house on bedford st and they have no food , water, or heat. what is wrong with this hick town?
wonder why the states attorney thought the sentence of suspending his 90 days was ok? we need to show the people in this town that we will NOT accept this kind of behavior against animals.

This guy should not be permitted to be on the property of the Animal Shelter , let alone be in contact with these animals. Are the Judges in this County really that stupid? In my opinion that is equal to sentencing a child abuser to community service at a day care center for children. Makes no sense at all.

      > I agree, as there are laws for child sex offenders where they are not allowed to be near any children or school zone areas…within certain feet/miles etc., and if caught they’re supposed to be held accountable, as they are breaking the law. Therefore by sentencing a person who abuses animals for community service at an animal shelter I feel is violating animal rights the same as children rights. So why even create laws to only be broken or overrided by the “law makers”?

Do u really believe that making someone who had already not been punished in any way is going to have any feelings toward the animals that will need Help, Love, Care, Support from those who have taken the time to care for the animals on many sad situations that come into shelters…do u really think this boy because he’s not a man, is seriously capable of caring for animals in any fashion…

–I agree it doesn’t make sense to sentence a person who abuses animals for community service, etc., at an animal shelter. This is like allowing a child sex offender to come within distance/feet of children or a school zone. This I feel is violating animal rights same as children rights. So Why make laws to be broken by the law makers”?
