July 5th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

12:00 PM UPDATE:Resources from four counties responded to the area of Kasecamp Road and Mertens Avenue for a possible water rescue late yesterday, emergency service officials said.

“The original call came through Morgan County, requesting resources from Allegany County to assist with a water rescue,” said Lt. Todd Bowman, public information officer for the Allegany County Department of Emergency Services. “The caller indicated that two males were last seen at approximately 6:30 p.m. and contact with them had been unsuccessful.”

Allegany County’s Joint Communication Center dispatched the county’s water resource team, a division of special operations. Water technicians from LaVale, Bowling Green, Cresaptown and the special operations duty officer responded. Additionally, Orleans Fire Department, ambulances from Flintstone and Allegany County Department of Emergency Services and an EMS supervisor.

Units from Washington County, Maryland, Morgan and Hampshire counties in West Virginia also responded.

“Morgan County requested Maryland State Police aviation be launched initially,” Bowman said. “Given the uncertainty of the situation, providing an aerial view is extremely beneficial. Additionally the aircraft is equipped for rescue operations if needed.”

Maryland DNR Police accessed the tow path near Bill’s Place in the area of the low water bridge in Little Orleans, Bowman said.

“Morgan’s communication center received a follow-up 911 call from the original called that the two males had been located and were fine as units converged on the scene,” Bowman said. “Chief 43 (Allegany County) confirmed that the mutual aid county did not need any additional resources from Allegany, including EMS before clearing the assignment.”

INITIAL REPORT:

Allegany County 911 dispatched units to Bonds Landing in Little Orleans after receiving reports that two rafters were overdue.

The units were summoned from Allegany, Morgan and Washington Counties.

Further information is not yet available on the 12:30 AM call.
