Unity Events End With Fight

June 28th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

WBAL reports a dispute between a pair of lawmakers led Anne Arundel County Police to respond to a Maryland Republican Party "Unity Event" in Severna Park on Thursday night.

Police were called at around 8:50 p.m. to the parking lot of the Columbian Center, where the event was taking place.

Delegate Cathy Vitale called police, and told officers that she tried to congratulate Delegate Tony McConkey on his primary win.

Vitale told police that McConkey refused to shake her hand, and repeatedly uttered obscenities at her.

Vitale's husband and McConkey's wife tried to step between the two lawmakers.

Vitale says at one point McConkey raised his hand in the air as if to strike Vitale.

Police say words were exchanged between McConkey, and Vitale's husband Mark Muckelbauer.

Police say Anne Arundel County State's Attorney candidate Wes Adams intervened and separated McConkey and Muckelbauer.

Vitale and her husband then left.
