On Friday, March 09, 2018 at approximately 11:09 a.m., the Cumberland Police Department was notified by school administrators at Fort Hill High School of a threatening message that was discovered written in a girl’s bathroom. During this investigation it was learned that a second threatening message was discovered written in another bathroom in the school.
An investigation immediately began by the Cumberland Police Department and Administrators with the Board of Education. Video surveillance was reviewed which aided in developing a suspect. Investigators with the Combined County Criminal Investigations Unit (C3I) responded and completed an interview of the suspect. As a result a 15 year old female student confessed to writing the messages in the bathrooms.
The threats that were found today at Fort Hill marked the fifth time that similar threats have been made as follows;
01/22/2018 = Bomb Threat
01/26/2018 = School Threat
02/02/2018 = School Threat
02/27/2018 = Bomb Threat
03/09/2018 = School Threat (times 2)
The difference in the threats above are that some had the wording of a “bomb” being used and the others were just general threats without the use of a “bomb”.
During the interview the juvenile female admitted to writing all the previous threats at the school.
As a result she was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Department for processing.
Charges are as follows;
Two counts of Arson/Bomb Threat.
Two counts of False Statement – using a destructive device.
Six counts of Disturbing School Operations.
Six counts of Threat of Mass Violence.
The juvenile was released to the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
The juvenile will also be disciplined in accordance with the school system’s policies on student discipline.
