UPDATE: CSX Confirms Job Cuts

May 23rd, 2017 by WCBC Radio

What was first reported Monday by WCBC News, has now been confirmed by CSX: approximately 45 jobs have been eliminated at the company’s South Cumberland rail yard. The action, according to company spokesman Rob Doolittle, is the result of declining demand for services. The employees impacted- worked in the yard’s locomotive maintenance facility. In an email, Doolittle said this is a result of the ongoing comprehensive review of operations that CSX’s management team is undertaking across the company to improve efficiency, safety and service to customers. Those employees were notified Monday. The terminations come a week after CSX announced it would be discontinuing use of the hump yard. Rumors are swirling the community that there are just the first in what could be significant jobs losses. Doolittle, who has declined to do interviews with WCBC News, is quoted in the email as saying more than 600 employees remain at the Cumberland yard.
