The cause of a Thursday night fire that damaged a duplex in Piedmont has not yet been determined. Dozens of volunteer firefighters from four counties responded to a two-alarm residential fire at 41 Third Street Thursday evening. A 911 call to the Mineral County 911 emergency center at 6:07 p.m., reported the blaze. The fire prompted alert of volunteer fire units from Mineral, Hampshire, Allegany and Garrett counties with Piedmont Volunteer Fire Department directing the fire operation. Preliminary reports indicated there were no injuries. The Cumberland Times News reports that the incident prompted alert to CSX Railroad to stop rail traffic in the immediate area. Rail traffic was allowed to resume at 11:22 p.m., according to the 911 center.
