Update on Student Arrest

On, Monday, January 23, 2017, at approximately 1:26 pm the Cumberland Police Department's School Resource Officer was contacted by the Allegany High School Principal about the possibility of a student in possession of a firearm in the school. Several officers, including both School Resource Officers responded. Officers were provided with the student’s name and location of the classroom they were located in. Officers located the student in question and removed them from the classroom immediately. Officers found in the student’s belongings a loaded small caliber firearm. The student was placed under arrest and transported to the police station for processing. The student was charged with Deadly Weapon on School Property, Minor in Possession of a Firearm, Carrying Deadly Weapon Concealed, and Disrupting School Operations. The parents gave permission to the officers to search their residence and additional evidence was located in regards to the investigation. Once processed the student was turned over to the Department of Juvenile Services until his first hearing tomorrow. It should be noted that at no time was any threat made to any student or faculty. The investigation is continuing with the assistance of C3I .
