UPDATED: Gas Leak Causes Evacuations

10 AM UPDATE:  A gas leak on Nemacolin Drive between Bishop Walsh Road and Cherrywood Lane resulted in the evacuation of about 20 residences for about an hour this morning.  By 10 AM, only Columbia Gas remained on the scene, after units from the Cumberland Fire and Police Departments and Allegany County Sheriff’s Deputies responded.

INITIAL REPORT:  The Cumberland Police Department, Cumberland Fire Department, and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office are currently on the scene of a natural gas leak in the area of Bishop Walsh Road, Nemacolin Avenue and Cherrywood Lane.  Columbia Gas is also on the scene working to repair the leak. 

Some residents in the immediate area have been evacuated as a precautionary measure.  Several streets in this area have been blocked off to restrict access.  The Allegany County Sheriff’s Fire Police are also on the scene assisting with traffic control. 

Repairs are expected to take one hour at this time.
