Vale Summit school bus changes

September 18th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

The State Highway Administration recently modified the area of Vale Summit at Harwood from a shoulder to a turn lane.  This change has resulted in ACPS bus #97 being required to activate it's red warning lights and stop arm when loading and unloading students at this stop.  Previously, the bus simply had to pull onto the shoulder and no lights were activated.  Motorists in this area during pick-up (approximately 7:00 a.m.) and drop-off (approximately 3:00 p.m.) times are reminded that the Maryland Motor Vehicle Law requires them to come to a complete stop when the bus's lights are activated. The fine for passing a stopped school bus while flashing its red lights is $570 and three points on a driving record. According to ACPS Supervisor of Transportation, Larry Humbertson, "Our number one priority is always student safety.  We need the community's support to keep students safe."
