Valentine Will Not Attend Meeting on School Funding

Allegany County Commissioners President Bill Valentine says the county has no intention of participating in a meeting that could turn into nothing more than a public scolding of the commissioners over school funding issues.  Valentine signed off on a letter yesterday to Board of Education President Nick Hadley indicating strongly that the county will not take part in a meeting requested by School Superintendent Dr David Cox to discuss the funding shortfall for the new Allegany High School.  The invitation from the superintendent included a list of 23 individuals who have also been asked to attend, including the local legislative delegation and the Cumberland Mayor and City Council. Valentine, pointing out that the school board has consistently left the county out of the loop during the process leading up to last week’s bid opening,  said the only parties that need to be involved in talks at this point is the school board and the county. The first question that needs to be answered is why the Allegany project bids came in so far above the architects projected cost…
