Van Hollen Holds Massive Lead in Race to Succeed Mikulski

A new poll shows the race to succeed U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski could be no contest this November. The OpinionWorks Poll of 802 likely voters in Maryland finds Democratic Congressman Chris Van Hollen leading Republican House Minority Whip Kathy Szleiga by 55-to-26-percent margin in the senate race. Democratic voters outnumber Republicans by about 2-to-1 in Maryland, so the poll results are not surprising.  The last republican to hold a senate seat in Maryland was Charles “Mac” Mathias from 1969 to 1987.  OpinionWorks President Steve Raabe told WBAL Radio that while both candidates are holding their base support, independents are leaning toward Van Hollen…
