On November 13, 2016 at approximately 0650 hours deputies of the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle crash on New Georges Creek Road in the Barton area. Upon initial investigation it was determined that a 1994 Ford truck driven by 28 year old Daniel Shockey of Lonaconing had collided with a 2008 Dodge SUV that was operated by 27 year old Justin Todd Keller of Westernport. Both Keller and Shockey were pronounced dead at the scene and the roadway was closed for approximately four (4) hours while the initial investigation was completed. A crash re-constructionist from the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and was assisted by a member of the Cumberland Police Department crash reconstruction team.
Also assisting at the scene was the Barton Fire Department, Tri-Towns Ambulance Service, Georges Creek Ambulance Service, Allegany County Fire Police, and the Maryland State Highway Administration.
The incident remains under investigation by the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office.
