August 4th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Approximately 30 special operations and support personnel responded to the Potomac River boat ramp in the Upper Potomac Industrial Park late Monday afternoon for a reported vehicle in the water, according to emergency service officials.

"Allegany County's Special Operations Water Team deployed two boats and was directed to the area by the caller," Special Operations Chief Derek Crippen said. "Our teams were originally not able to locate the vehicle. With the assistance of dive technicians with the Maryland DNR police, crews were able to locate the vehicle."

Crippen said the vehicle appeared to have been there for a period of time and did not have tags on it.

"It appears that the vehicle may have been pushed in the water from the West Virginia side of the Potomac River," Crippen said.

No injuries were reported in the 2:30 p.m. incident, according to Lt. Todd Bowman, public information officer for the Allegany County Department of Emergency Services.

Units from Bowling Green, Cresaptown, the Allegany County Special Operations Water Team, ambulances from Cresaptown, the City of Cumberland and an Allegany County Department of Emergency Services EMS Supervisor responded.

Units remained on the scene until approximately 5 p.m
