January 17th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

On Friday, officers with the Cumberland Police Department were dispatched to the railroad crossing at Baltimore St and Queen City Drive for a report of a vehicle that had been hit by a train.  CSX officials were also notified and responded to the scene. Upon arrival to the area, witnesses advised that the vehicle had left the scene.  Officers began to search the area when the suspect vehicle returned to the scene. Through the investigation, it was learned that the vehicle was traveling on Queen City Dr and attempted to make a left turn, over the railroad tracks.  The operator failed to see the railroad signal lights and barriers and proceeded across the tracks.  A train was approaching at the same time.  The train struck the vehicle.  The operator was not injured and the train was not damaged.
