Vote Snafu Leaves Teacher Strike In Limbo

March 4th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

The West Virginia State Senate thought it had voted for a 4 percent raise for all state employees Saturday evening, instead of the 5 percent teachers were looking for, but a snafu in voting had the Senate approving the 5 percent raise instead of the amended version.

As leadership tried to fix the problem, there was confusion about what the mix up would mean.

Teacher union reps told their membership and the press that without the 5 percent pay hike, the strike would continue indefinitely.

WCBC News will report counties that elect to close Monday as we receive the information.
