Walkathon to raise money for Family Crisis Center

June 24th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

The Family Crisis Center is sponsoring the “Free to Walk”athon and vendor event June 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Keyser High School. The walkathon will benefit the local domestic violence center that serves Mineral, Hampshire, Hardy, Grant and Pendleton counties. Proceeds will go toward services that help empower victims and survivors financially. Financial abuse is a tactic many abusers use to keep their partners in relationships, according to the Family Crisis Center. It prevents victims from acquiring, using or maintaining financial resources. The No. 1 reason domestic violence survivors stay in or return to abusive relationships is because they don’t have the financial resources to break free. Registration is for single walkers or walkers in teams of five or more. Call 304-788-6061 to register or register the day of the event. Vendors may call Gannon at 304-813-0224. The vendor setup will start at 3 p.m.
