Washington County DUI Checkpoint This Weekend

April 14th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland State Police, in conjunction with the Washington County Sherriff’s Department, will conduct a multi-jurisdictional drunk and impaired driver’s checkpoint with associated saturation patrols during the weekend of April 16th and 17th.   The check point will be at an undisclosed location in Hagerstown.  The goal is prevention of alcohol related crashes and to remind the citizens of Washington County that we will be out there strictly enforcing DUI laws.

In 2014 there were 442 fatal crashes in Maryland with 35% of them directly related to DUI.  29% of those were above a blood alcohol level of .08%.  Over the last twenty years we have made real progress in decreasing the numbers of impaired driver crashes through increased awareness, education and vigorous DUI enforcement.  We still have room for improvement, and that is our goal.

Drivers that are convicted of DUI charges can expect fines and expenses that can exceed several thousand dollars, not to mention loss of driving privileges and increased insurance fees.  Do every one a favor and plan for a safe ride home, save yourself and your family the embarrassment of being arrested for something that is easily preventable.
