The Herald Mail report three business trips to South Korea over the past year have cost Washington County government a total of $262,809, according to information provided by the county last week.County officials say it's money well spent. County officials have been courting a number of foreign investors who have expressed interest in, among other sites, a proposed redevelopment plan for the former Fort Ritchie Army base in Cascade, a project that could infuse hundreds of millions into the rural area in the county's northeast corner. Herald-Mail Media made a public-information request for expense records related to the three business trips that took place in October 2015, March 2016 and September 2016. The most recent 12-day trip — attended by the largest contingent of county officials of the three — was the most expensive to date, costing roughly $145,000, a number that includes an $11,100 reimbursement to be paid by Commissioner LeRoy E. Myers Jr., for the travel and meals of his wife, who accompanied him on the trip.
