Washington’s NFL Team to Officially Drop the Name “Redskins”

July 13th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Despite repeated declarations from the owner of the Washington Redskins that he would never change the team's nickname, the NFL franchise is expected to announce Monday the name “Redskins" and the team's Indian head logo will be dropped immediately.

Less than two weeks ago, owner Dan Snyder again promised he would never get rid of the name, which was adopted in 1933, even as pressure to do so increased from sponsors, including FedEx, Nike, Pepsi and Bank of America. Native American advocates have long criticized the name they call a “dictionary-defined racial slur.”

A new name must still be selected for the team, and it remained unclear when that will happen

The franchise recently began cutting ties with founder George Marshall, a segregationist and the last NFL owner to integrate his team.

The team released the following statement Monday morning:

Another outfit kneeling down to the liberal left! This racism issue is getting old. I wish these organizations would get a set of gonads and stand up to the left. I hope no one ever watches them again.

Maybe they should be called the Blackskins, Pat. Or do you prefer the Whiteskins?

I’d be willing to bet that people who are the victims of racism would also agree that this “whole racism issue is getting old.”

Fear not, Dan Snyder is working on a great branding scheme that will return the team to greatness – he talking to Snyder’s Of Berlin, the great potato chip maker to help with the change. He’ll name the team after Redskin Potatoes. Hail to the Spuds! The chip maker will roll out the new chips at training camp!!

I can only hope this is the start of a national cleansing. Get rid of those bigoted red skin potatoes, what about Red Robin, Red Lobster, black boards, black heads, black panthers, it’s time to quit offending!!! I guess my mommy lied to me when she said “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”. I guess people were made of tougher stuff back then. Or could it all be about the power?… There are people out there that hate this country enough to strap bombs on their children to kill us and a name of a football team is more than we can endure. Thank God for people in this country that are willing to fight and die for our freedom. I seriously doubt the PC crowd is, someone may offend them. God help us!!!

      > lol – he sold out to FedEx. He wanted their money, this was the price. I’ll bet Sonny Jorgensen would roll over in his grave if he were dead. Love it!

To those of you who are against changing the name: How will the name change completely and utterly ruin your day-to-day existence and make your life on earth a living hell? Will it somehow make you lose your job? Will you go bankrupt? Will your spouse leave you? Will your kids drop out of school? How will this signify the end of your racist life as you know it? I’m waiting.

I support freedom of speech. We all have the right to say what we believe. I feel that many of the comments on this post seem very hateful. It is sad that during a worldwide crisis that is affecting all of humanity, people still find the time to hate.

      > In this same thread Beth you said “Racism is getting old” – meaning people who are victims should just shut up, right? Sounds a little hateful, wouldn’t you say? Pot, meet kettle.
