WCBC Submits Freedom of Information Act on School Board

April 21st, 2015 by WCBC Radio

WCBC has submitted a Freedom of Information request to the Allegany County Board of Education after receiving several inquiries about a Title I teacher at South Penn Elementary School. In reply, the school system said in order to comply, it will cost over $800 to generate the documents requested, including paying employees an average of over 39 dollars an hour to produce the information.

WCBC has asked for a waiver, saying the public has an interest in hearing about the information requested.  The waiver has not been granted. The Maryland General Assembly recently revamped access rules to public records, limiting both the maximum fee that can be charged, and tightening the time limit officials have to respond.
