Weather causes early issues

November 24th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

Weather conditions deteriorated in Allegany County just after daybreak; Fire and emergency medical personnel have been busy with increased calls on roadways due to the winter weather conditions.

“As temperatures dropped and the rain moved in to the area roadways and bridge conditions deteriorated causing vehicle accidents from west to east,” Allegany County Department of Emergency Services Director Dick DeVore said.

Fire and EMS units responded to incidents stretching along I-68 from Frostburg to Little Orleans starting just before 7:30 a.m., according to Todd Bowman, public information officer for Allegany County Department of Emergency Services. No serious injuries were reported in any of the incidents.

“We urge citizens to remain indoors until the temperatures rise above freezing. This will give road crews time to continue treating the roads and bridges,” DeVore said. “If you do have to be out, use extreme caution on all surfaces as they may be covered with ice.

“The freezing rain is going to continue for the next several hours, before the temperatures rise above freezing,” National Weather Service Meteorologist Ray Martin said.

DeVore added that county emergency services is closely monitoring the conditions over the next few hours.

“Follow local media and our social media page for weather updates,” DeVore said.
