Western Maryland Area Health Education Center to Receive $1 Million in Funding to Combat the Opioid Crisis

August 7th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

U.S. Congressman David Trone along with U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen (all D-Md.) announced that Western Maryland Area Health Education Center will receive $1 million dollars in funding through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to help combat the worsening opioid crisis in the region.

The Western Maryland Area Health Education Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working to improve access and quality of care in Western Maryland, servicing Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett counties, and portions of Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The funding comes through a $101 million grant to help states address substance use and opioid use disorders in high-risk communities.

Splendid virtue signaling from our Democrat rulers, giving a million dollars of other people’s money to an organization that employs nobody that looks like themselves.

Bob, heck let’s just give the money back. We don’t want to look like we’re trying to help people.

What exactly will the The Western Maryland Area Health Education Center do with this $1,000,000? Are there people out there that don’t know that addictive drugs will harm your health and may lead to your death and destroy their families? If we educate people to the harm of drugs they will not take them? Just wondering where these people have been that don’t know this.

Legalize all drugs and treat it as a disease. The crime and the violence will be cut by 98%.

We have legalized alcohol and treaded it like a disease. I know legalizing alcohol got rid of gang in-fighting of bootleggers, but it did not stop people from bootlegging or stop people from getting drunk and harming themselves and others, so we think adding to the list of mind impairing drugs will help the situation? I will agree legalizing would stop gang fighting over turf, but legalizing alcohol did get rid of the Mafia. And increasing the number of “stoned” people would not make our country a better place. Besides do you actually believe that over 90% of crime is related to drug sales or use?
