Western Maryland Jaycees Celebrate 10 Years of the Tri-State Wing-Off & Music Festival

February 20th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The Western Maryland Jaycees are proud to announce the 10-year anniversary of their premier event, the Tri-State Wing-Off & Music Festival sponsored in part by Thomas Cumberland.

The Tri-State Wing-Off & Music Festival is a charity focused event located at the Allegany County Fairgrounds that will be held on June 20th, 2020.  The all-day festival includes family friendly activities, wing vendors and craft exhibitors and some great musical entertainment to enjoy throughout the day.

This year’s headlining act is the Roots N Boots tour featuring famous country artists Collin Raye, Aaron Tippin and Sammy Kershaw, 3 voices that helped define 90’s country music.  Collectively, the three artists have over 40 top 10 radio hits and 25 million albums sold.

Supporting acts throughout the day will include Clare Dunn, who was named “One to Watch” by USA Today, Billboard, The Boston Globe and Rolling Stone; Sunny Sweeney, whose single “From a Table Away” hit Billboard’s US Country Charts top 10 in March of 2011; and Ward Davis who has had songs recorded by artists such as Trace Adkins, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Sammy Kershaw and Bucky Covington.

Tickets for the event will go on sale on April 3rd for only $25.  That sale price will last through April 5th, at which point the price will increase to $35.

Other than voting for their favorite wings, attendees can expect a “fun for all ages” atmosphere that consists of everything from bounce houses and games to mechanical bulls.  Guests will also enjoy a wing eating competition that takes place live on stage.  The festival is solely driven to raise money for local charities.  To date, the “Wing-Off” has donated over $80,000 back to local non-profit organizations.

“It’s still amazing to me that we are celebrating 10 years this year” says Matt Miller, event creator and coordinator.  “The success we have realized over the last decade is a true testament to the amount of support we have generated from the community during the timeframe.  It would not be possible without such a large following in terms of both sponsorship and ticket-buyers.”

If the wing off has given away $9,000 a year, why do they still receive county and city tourism money? Yet another shifty deal from Miller and the CDEC.

I’d like the WCBC newsroom to dig into this a little and find out just how much this booze fest really takes from the city and county.

Are this organization at receive the roughly $9000 a year, are they given the money with no strings or are they being paid for services provided during this beer and wing party.

I would appreciate knowing just what the admission price includes. Are wings included? Are drinks includes? If not, how much additional money must be paid for wings and drinks? All I can see on the website is an admission charge that starts at $25 and increases to $40.
    Is anyone in the know?

      > Admission includes the music acts (and I guess bouncy house, etc for the kids). You pay for your wings and drinks separately. At least that’s how it was at the very first one. After that, we couldn’t afford to go to any more – the admission price kept going up every year.

Try to find an all day music fest in one of most beautiful places on earth less than 40 bucs. Less if you buy early. Love the wing off.
