Westernport Man Leads Sheriff’s Deputies on Chase in Midland

On April 26th, 2017 at approximately 10:45PM Deputies of the Allegany County Sheriff's Office were on patrol in the area of Georges Creek in Midland. Deputies observed a 2 door Pontiac with an equipment violation traveling south bound. A check of the registration revealed that the tag did not belong on the make and model of vehicle that it was being displayed on. Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the driver attempted to elude deputies on several back roads throughout the Lonaconing area with disregard to oncoming vehicles and traffic laws.

The vehicle subsequently came to a stop on Douglass Avenue in Lonaconing near the Garrett County line. The driver and sole occupant was identified as 32 year old Joshua Travis Smith of Westernport. Smith was arrested and the vehicle was impounded. Pursuant to the arrest deputies located several controlled dangerous substances and CDS paraphernalia. Troopers from the Maryland State Police assisted in the incident. 

 

Charges:

Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance not Marijuana x 3

Possession of CDS Paraphernalia

Failing to Yield Right of Way

Unauthorized Display of Reg. Plates

Driving Without License

Failing to Obey a Traffic Control Device x 4

Traveling in Excess of the Speed Limit x 3

Attempting to Elude Police

Displaying Reg. Plates from Another Vehicle

Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle

Unsafe Lane Change

Driving on the Right Half of the Roadway

Reckless Driving

Negligent Driving

Driving Revoked

 

Smith was held on a $5,000 bond.
