With River Park Support, Several Local Projects Still Have Funding Need

December 20th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

There has been strong support across the board for the proposed River Park at Canal Place project- and those driving the project hope to have a better handle on projected costs any day now. There are, however,  already any number of local projects in line looking for funding.  The river park would be located on the North Branch of the Potomac River behind Canal Place. Features would include two access points for boaters, a whitewater course, riverside trail, viewing area, parking and a fish passage ladder. A total cost for the river park and possible grant sources are to be included in the final version of the feasibility study, which Canal Place Director Dee Dee Ritchie hopes to see completed by the end of the year- or in about two weeks. While supportive of the concept, Delegate Mike McKay points out that the plan for the river park is taking shape at a time when many other local capital projects have already been waiting for state funding commitments- and there is only so much money to go around…

They can’t find money for a capital project everyone wants for our area but yet they are finding 6 million (and possibly more) for the destruction of the Baltimore street mall that no one wants?

The state plenty of money to finish all western Maryland wishes, if it didn’t over allocate and waste money to Baltimore county, Prince George county and Montgomery county. All the taxes have been allocated to these three counties all my life.

Although many enjoy sliced bread, there are many other who prefer a whole loaf that you can tear chunks out of it enjoy ills or brocken.

What I don’t understand is why is it so difficult for our elected officials to understand what the majority of people in their constituents want and need. ALL THE MORE REASON FOR EVERYONE TO GET OUT AND VOTE THESE GREEDY SELF SERVING INDIVIDUALS OUT. PEACE OUT.
