On May 29, 2018 at 1649 hours, the Hagerstown Barrack was notified of a female motorcycle passenger who was thrown off of a motorcycle and possibly ran over by a vehicle on Leitersburg Pike near Longmeadow Road. Investigation revealed that a 29 year old female was riding as a passenger on a Harley Davidson Wide Glide motorcycle. The male operator was observed speeding and passing vehicles at a high rate on southbound Leitersburg Pike. A witness stated the suspect was in the opposing lane passing vehicles when a vehicle was approaching from the opposite direction, causing him to quickly swerve back into the southbound lane. This maneuver caused the female passenger to be thrown from the motorcycle. She struck the roadway and came to a rest on the southbound shoulder. She was not run over but had struck her head on the pavement, causing her helmet to come off. She sustained very serious injuries from the impact. The driver pulled the motorcycle over without further incident. Troopers concluded that the driver of the motorcycle was intoxicated after he completed standardized field sobriety testing and was placed under arrest for DUI. The driver submitted to a breath test at the Hagerstown Barrack which resulted in a .10 BAC.

The female was immediately flown from the scene to Shock Trauma by Trooper 3. As of today’s date, May 30, 2018, the female passenger has been released from Shock Trauma.
