WV & MD Congressmen Ask For Meeting With Verso Interim CEO Leslie Lederer

May 22nd, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Monday night, U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Congressmen David Trone (D-Md.) and David McKinley (R-W.Va) wrote to Verso’s Interim CEO Leslie Lederer asking him to meet with the delegation before Luke paper mill operations cease on May 31.  The members expressed concern about the future of the mill, its workers, and the entire community. The letter emphasizes that Luke Mill employees, their families and all of citizens in the affected area deserve to know what Verso Corporation’s plans are for the future of the plant.  Future plans for the mill has been a focal point of local, state and federal officials since learning of the planned closure late last month. State Senator George Edwards says that while both Maryland and West Virginia have any number of programs offering incentives to companies that may be interested in buying the mill-  no such options can be pursued until Verso decides what to do with the location. ..
