WV & MD DNR Give October Updates

October 7th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources will delay the fall trout stocking this year to allow lakes and streams to get cooler. A total of 26 streams and 11 lakes will be stocked with trout the weeks of October 15th and the 22nd. The schedule change also helps hatchery staff ensure trout spawning is completed in a timely fashion and large brood fish can be made available to Mountain State fishermen.

Fall color will arrive just in time for the Garrett County Autumn Glory Festival, which begins on Wednesday in Maryland's westernmost county. The DNR is reporting trees are beginning to change more rapidly, and at Deep Creek State Park, the hickory trees are starting to show bright yellow. Even in Eastern Allegany County, reds and yellows are starting to pop on some trees at Rocky Gap State Park.
