An instructor of the Eastern Community and Technical College who teaches college courses at Petersburg High School was arrested Thursday when a team of drug investigators and K-9 units conducted a routine search of the school. Scott Dixon of Mathias was arrested by Petersburg City Police a short time after he ran from the school following the search conducted at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Dixon was arrested on a charge of obstructing justice as a result of running from the school during a police lockdown, authorities said. He was also charged with possession of a smoking device containing residual marijuana. Additional charges are pending, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Office. Dixon was granted a pre-trail release following a bond hearing in Grant County Magistrate Court.

The arrest followed a routine narcotic and drug search of the school that was conducted by West Virginia State Police, Petersburg City Police and sheriff's offices from Grant, Hardy and Jefferson counties, police said.

An adult student identified as Briana Hiem of Petersburg was arrested during the search on a charge of possession of marijuana, and two juveniles were charged with possession of narcotics and marijuana, police said.

Grant County Schools Superintendent DeEdra Bolton said Friday that Dixon is not an employee of the board of education but that he was in Petersburg High School at the time of the search conducting college courses through an arrangement between the board and Eastern Community College.
