On 3/20/18 at approximately 7:00 PM Deputies of The Allegany County Sheriff's Office responded to an address on Beeman Road in Barton Maryland for a check on the well-being of a female.The initial information provided alleged that a female was being held against her will and had been threatened with a gun.
Deputies responded to the residence and located the female who was suffering from obvious and significant physical trauma from an assault. It was learned that the female had been held for several days in the residence where she was assaulted numerous times, strangled to the point of losing consciousness and threatened with a loaded gun. It was reported that the aggressor had fled the residence prior to the arrival of the deputies.
While still on scene it was learned that the male had hidden his vehicle and had crawled into a hidden attic area of the residence. Deputies located the male and placed him under arrest.
The female victim was transported to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by ambulance.
The suspect, 56 year-old John Edward Beeman of Barton was charged with the following:
Attempted 1st Degree Murder
Attempted 2nd Degree Murder
1st Degree Assault
2nd Degree Assault
Firearm Use in Felony/Violent Crime
Wear and Carry Deadly Weapon
False Imprisonment
Obstruction of Justice
Firearm-Possession after Conviction of Crime of Violence
Firearm-Possession with Felony Conviction
Rifle-Possession with Felony Conviction
Illegal Possession of Ammo
Several guns, some of which were loaded, were seized form the residence, to include the gun that was described by the victim as the one used to threaten her life. Beeman was detained at the Allegany County Detention Center pending an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
