Although there are still some minor adjustments to be worked out- the Allegany County Commissioners have the makings of a balanced budget in place. Two weeks ago the county was looking at a $4.1 million shortfall as a result of a large number of funding requests. Finance Director Jason Bennett has presented a number of recommendations to fill in the shortfall including just a 1% increase for education- and a 20% reduction in the request that came from emergency services. Although not ideal, the county will again dip in to its reserve fund- and will also be unable to provide the annual incremental tax reduction that has been part of the budget for the past 9 years. Given the large number of increases, combined with little growth, County Commissioners President Jake Shade said that although it’s not ideal- he is pleased with how the budget has come together…

Why is government the only place that if you lose customers you hire more people to serve them the population of Allegany County is going down the number of employees is going up

Usually when quality people leave a location and leave behind not so quality people who are looking to free services and items, it takes more people to administer those functions and services that you either hire more people to support them or the complaint department gets bombarded. So you see the squeaky wheel does get the oil one way or another.
