The Allegany County Health Department reports that two Allegany County residents have tested positive for COVID-19.  The first individual is a male in his 60s with underlying medical conditions who is currently hospitalized and confirmed with the virus Wednesday morning. The patient recently traveled to a neighboring state.  It was the first case reported in Allegany County. Later in the afternoon the health department reported that a second Allegany County resident has tested positive for COVID-19. This individual is a female in her 20s who recently traveled out of state. She is self-isolating and has not required hospitalization.Upon notification of a positive case, the health department began a contact investigation where interviews are conducted to determine where the patient has been and who he has been in contact with. The Health Department then notifies all individuals who came in contact with the patient while he was infectious.  Individuals who came in contact with the patient must self-isolate or quarantine for 14 days. Allegany County Health Officer Janelle Mayer stresses that community members should stay home and only go out for essentials.  Continue to practice social distancing, wash your hands often, avoid touching your face, disinfect high-touch surfaces, and stay away from others if you are not feeling well.
