Allegany County Government, the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation (CEDC), Allegany College of Maryland, Western Maryland Consortium and local representatives from the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation announced today that they have been working collaboratively to provide opportunities for former employees of CSX. 

“Those affected by CSX’s recent restructuring are our neighbors, friends and family. Therefore, it is important for all of us to band together and help,” said Brandon S. Butler, Allegany County Administrator.  

Since last Friday’s announcement, representatives from these organizations have been in contact with a number of the area’s top businesses. These businesses include Hunter Douglas, Berry Plastics, the Western Correctional Institution, National Jet Corporation, and others. Job openings and requisite skills have been identified for immediate placement.  

“I am proud of the outpouring of support from our business partners. They have quickly mobilized to make things happen,” added Paul Kelly, Executive Director and President of the CEDC. 

Those affected by the recent action taken by CSX are encouraged to contact the Cumberland American Job Center located at 138 Baltimore Street, Suite 102, Cumberland by calling 301-777-1221. The professionals at the American Job Center will work with these individuals to match their skills with the openings with the area’s top employers. 

A job fair is also being organized and is currently slated for June 14,2018. Additional details will follow; however, priority will be provided to former CSX employees at the event.
