Busy Friday for Police: Individuals arrested on drug; assault and burglary charges in seperate incidents

On Friday, the Cumberland City Police served a Criminal Summons on Michael Scott Guthrie, of Cumberland MD. The summons was in reference to an incident on March 8th, 2021, at a residence in the 700 block of Frederick St. Guthrie was charged with first and 3rd degree burglary as well as theft $25,000 to under $100,000. Guthrie was served the Summons and released, pending trial in District Court.

Arrested:  Mark Scott Guthrie         Age:  54

 

The Cumberland City Police responded to a business in the 200 block of Greene St for the report of a suspicious subject in a vehicle. Upon arrival, Officers located a female subject in a U-Haul truck and identified her as Loretta Jo Lynn Knippenberg, 31, of Cumberland MD. During the course of the investigation, a police K9 was utilized to conduct a free air sniff of the vehicle which yielded a positive alert to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, quantities of suspected crack cocaine, Oxycodone, and Alprazolam were located. As a result, Knippenberg was placed under arrest and transported to Police Headquarters for processing. Knippenberg was taken before the District Court Commissioner for her Initial Appearance where she was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. She is currently being held on $5,000 bond.

Charges: Possession CDS not marijuana x3, CDS Possession Paraphernalia

 

The Cumberland City Police responded to a business in the 400 block of Virginia Ave for the report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers contacted a female victim as well as other witnesses. The victim advised they were inside the business withdrawing cash from an ATM when they were approached by a female suspect. In the process of removing cash from the ATM machine, the female suspect forcibly grabbed the cash and attempted to take it from the victim. A struggle ensued between the subjects resulting in the victim being thrown to the ground. Officers were then able to arrive on scene and separate the subjects involved. As a result of the investigation, Bianca Shanae Murphy, 29, of Cumberland MD, was placed under arrest and taken to Police Headquarters for processing. Murphy was taken before the District Court Commissioner for her Initial Appearance where she was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. She is currently being held without bond.

Charges: Robbery, Assault 2nd Degree, Theft $100-$1500.

 

And Police arrested Malcolm Allen Parsons, 28, of Cumberland MD. Parson was found to have an active Arrest Warrant through Mineral County WV for Violation of Probation. Parson was placed under arrest for charges of being a fugitive from justice. Parsons was taken before the District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held without bond, pending extradition to WV.
