Camping Complaint Leads To Numerous Charges

On October 21, 2017 at approximately 2:56 PM the Cumberland Police responded to the 300 block of N. Centre Street for a report of a subject illegally camping.  Police located a male subject in the area described to police.  As police conducted their investigation the male provided numerous different names and dates of birth to the officer.  The subject was placed under arrest for Obstructing and Hindering and False Statement.  After the male subject was placed in custody, police were able to use electronic fingerprinting to determine the male’s actual identity.  The male was identified as Donald Lee Hamer.  Police then learned Hamer had an active warrant for his arrest from Baltimore City for Failure to Appear in Court on November 4, 2016 on an original charge of 2nd Degree Assault.  Hamer was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was held on a temporary commitment.  He was taken to the Allegany County Detention Center to await his next appearance in District Court.  The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.

Charges:  False Statement to Officer X2, Obstructing and Hindering, Fraud-Per. Identity to Avoid Prosecution, and Bench Warrant for Failure to Appear
