City Police Charge Man With DWI In 6 AM Crash

On Monday at 6:06 am, Cumberland City Police Officers responded to westbound interstate 68 at exit 43C for a motor vehicle accident.  Investigation into this matter revealed that Daniel Penrod, age 27, was travelling westbound when he attempted to take the 43C exit ramp.  Upon doing so, he struck the operator of a 2014 Kia who was already in the exit lane.  Upon striking the vehicle, Penrod’s 2005 Dodge truck spun and rolled to its side.  The officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Penrod’s breath and person.  Penrod suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Center for further observation. The driver of the Kia was not injured.  Both vehicles were towed from the scene by local tow services.  A partial portion of the interstate was shut down for one hour.

Driving under the influence of alcohol, Driving while impaired by alcohol, Driving too impaired to drive safely, Reckless driving, Negligent driving, Unsafe lane change, Fail to control speed to avoid collision and Operator unrestrained by seatbelt.
