On December 1, 2025 the Cumberland Police Department and the Allegany County Combined Investigative Unit along with the Allegany County Sheriff's Office Special Operations Response Team conducted a search warrant in the 400 block of Columbia Street. This stemmed from an alleged armed robbery incident that occurred several hours ago. Expect to see an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues. At this time there is no threat to the public and the investigation is ongoing. The suspect, Michael Mumaw has been taken into custody as a result of this investigation. He has been transported to the Allegany County Detention Center pending his initial appearance with a District Court commissioner.
