Commissioners Begin Effort To End Permitting Red Tape

The Allegany County Board of Commissioners recently began efforts to put an end of bureaucratic red tape and other hurdles faced by businesses and residents when seeking permits.  The commissioners heard a presentation on proposed regulatory reforms designed to ease the planning and permitting process. The Regulatory Reform Commission recommendations included:  fostering interagency communication that meets common objectives and creating opportunities for resource sharing; and  a web portal was recommended to allow permit applications and digital plan submissions to be filed online. Commissioners President Jake Shade said there have been complaints for years about the difficulty people and start-up businesses have in attempting to secure permits in the county and the city of Cumberland for even the simplest of projects. He hoes these proposals will go a long way toward reducing those paperwork burdens…

    Why has it taken soooo long to be addressed? Thought you folks were trying to lure business to the County. I suggest you speak with the fellow whom just spoke out about ALL the efforts being made. This to me is a WOW statement that was made.
