Cost To Restore Steam Engine Continue To Rise With Funding Resources Drying Up

Savior or albatross?  The cost of restoring the former Chesapeake & Ohio No. 1309 steam engine continues to rise- and with funding resources drying up- there is now no best estimate on the part of the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad as to when it will be ready.  John Garner, superintendent of the WMSRR, tells WCBC News that although the restoration is on hold, he's determined to see the project through.  Originally the plan had been for a grand July fourth weekend opening this past summer. Then a late fall date was projected.  After that Garner was looking toward spring of 2018. With no additional state funds targeted for the project, Garner has turned to private fund raising efforts, seeking to secure the necessary $500,000 to complete the restoration…
