CPD Make Warrant & Other Arrests

On February 20th, 2017 officers responded to a residence on Boone St for a report of a wanted subject.  A citizen advised the police that Brittany Sears was at the residence and that she had two active warrants from Mineral County, West Virginia.  When officers arrived at the residence, they contacted the homeowner, along with a roommate.  The owner advised that he was not sure if Sears was inside and invited the police inside to search the residence.  Officers also contacted Floyd Ferguson, who also lived at the residence.  Ferguson stated that Sears was not inside and that he had not seen her. 

When officers entered the residence Ferguson stated that they could not search his room.  When asked which room was his, Ferguson intentionally lied to officers, steering them away from one particular bedroom, then giving them conflicting information.  Ferguson eventually opened the door to a room that he claimed was his bedroom, where officers located Sears.  Sears was placed under arrest.  Ferguson was also placed under arrest for Obstructing and Hindering, as well as Harboring a Fugitive.  When officers attempted to arrest Ferguson, he resisted.  After a brief struggle he was placed under arrest and additionally charged with Resisting Arrest.  He was taken before the District Court Commissioner and released on his own personal recognizance. 

Sears was arrested for two outstanding warrants and charged as a fugitive.  The warrants were for Violation of Probation and Violation of Community Correction Program, which stemmed from an original felony charge of Delivery of a Controlled Substance in West Virginia.  She was taken before the District Court Commissioner and is being held at the Allegany County Detention Center, awaiting extradition.

Warrant Arrest

On February 20th, 2017 the Cumberland Police arrested John Michael McKenzie, 34 years old, of Cumberland MD.  McKenzie had an active arrest warrant stemming from an incident on February 14th, 2017, where McKenzie had allegedly stolen a television from an address on the 100 block of Independence St.  Charges were filed on McKenzie and a warrant was issued, charging him with Theft, Less than $1000.  He was placed under arrest and taken before the District Court Commissioner.   Mckenzie also had an additional warrant for traffic charges from Anne Arundel County.  McKenize was held on $2,600 at the Allegany County Detention Center.

Burglary/CDS Arrest

On February 20th, 2017 the Cumberland Police responded to a vacant residence on Knox St for a report that two subjects had entered the building.  When officers arrived on scene, they could hear a male and female screaming at each other inside.  Officers entered the building and located Amanda Yvonne Tallman, 23 years old, and Christopher Adam Hale 34 years old, both from Cumberland, MD inside the residence.  Both were placed under arrest.   Tallman and Hale admitted to entering the residence in order to use CDS, specifically heroin.  Officers located CDS paraphernalia, as well as a small amount of suspected heroin.  Both were charged with Fourth Degree Burglary, Trespassing, and CDS related charges as a result.
