On October 19, 2017 at 11:48 a.m., Cumberland Police Department responded East Bound Industrial Boulevard at Virginia Avenue for a motor vehicle accident. When officers arrived they found a 2009 Ford SUV resting on its roof in the intersection with driver sitting on the sidewalk. Officers ensured that no one was in serious medical need and began investigating the accident. During the investigation, officers found the driver of the 2009 Ford made a left turn off of West Industrial Boulevard onto Virginia Avenue traveling the wrong direction. The vehicle then entered the intersection of Virginia Avenue and East Industrial Boulevard. The vehicle was then struck in the passenger side by a 2015 Chevy truck owned by the City of Cumberland. The driver of the 2009 Ford SUV was cited for failing to obey a traffic control device. All vehicle occupants were checked by the Cumberland Fire Department and no serious injuries were reported.
