CSX Meets With Officials To Discuss Deteriorating Railroad Bridges

For more than two hours Wednesday, representatives from CSX Transportation talked with local, state and federal officials in Cumberland to discuss the deteriorating railroad bridges on the city’s west side. The city has been seeking the help of CSX to repair four bridges on the West Side — vehicle bridges on Cumberland, Fayette and Washington streets, and a railroad bridge on Greene Street. The main problem with the Greene Street bridge is that it is not high enough to allow large trucks to pass beneath it.  Both the Washington Street and Cumberland Street bridges are closed.  The morning meeting, held at Canal Place, included the entire district one legislative delegation; Cumberland Mayor Brian Grim; County Commissioner Jake Shade; a representative for U.S. Senator Ben Cardin and several CSX officials. The media was not permitted to attend the session; however Delegate Jason Buckel told WCBC News afterward that it was a productive meeting- with CSX pledging to work with the city to secure state and federal funding for bridge upgrades…
