Cumberland man arrested, charged in robbery investigation

December 2nd, 2016 by WCBC Radio

On 06/20/2016 a lone suspect entered the lobby of the Econo Lodge Motel on Winchester Road in LaVale. When he approached the front desk clerk he demanded money. When the clerk refused, the suspect walked around the counter and grabbed money from the register. The clerk grabbed the suspect in an attempt to stop him. A brief struggle ensued before the suspect was able to escape the cahier, who managed to pull the suspect's jacket off. The suspect ran out the back door, with an undisclosed sum of money, into the wooded area directly behind the business.             The suspect was described as a white male, in his 20's or 30's, approximately 5-07 in height, weighing between 190 and 210 pounds, with a scruffy beard. He was wearing blue jeans and the blue Nike jacket left at the scene.

The Allegany County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene. With the assistance of a Maryland State Police K-9, a search was conducted for the suspect, but he was not located at that time.

Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) also responded to assist in the investigation.

As a result of investigations into several other incidents since that time, a suspect was developed by C3I Investigators. Additional evidence was gathered, eventually leading to Investigators obtaining criminal charges for the suspect.

The suspect, 28 year old Jacob Murill Crock, of Cumberland, was charged on 12/02/2016 with Robbery, Theft, and related charges. Crock, who was already incarcerated at the Allegany County Detention Center, was charged via Criminal Summons, and remains incarcerated at the Detention Center, pending his next court appearance.
