Cumberland man sentenced for 2017 attack

The Office of the State’s Attorney for Allegany County, Michael O. Twigg, State’s Attorney, announced on Friday, January 19, 2018, that Louis Brown, 60 of Cumberland, was convicted of second degree assault.  The Honorable W. Timothy Finan, Allegany County Circuit Court Judge, sentenced Brown to 10 years in the Maryland Department of Corrections, suspending five years of the sentence. Brown was charged in January 2017 after he threw a brick through the window of a residence on Maryland Avenue in Cumberland.  The victim then exited the home, at which time Brown assaulted him with a vehicle antenna, causing a laceration to the victim’s eye.  Several witnesses were able to aid the victim and subdue Brown until police arrived. The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Erich Bean.  Brown was represented by Paul Notarianni of the Public Defender’s Office.  The Cumberland City Police Department investigated the case.
