Cumberland Man Sentenced In Sex Abuse Case

The Office of the State’s Attorney for Allegany County, Michael O. Twigg, State’s Attorney, announced that sixty six year old ROGER DALE BEEMAN of Cumberland pled guilty to one count of Sexual Abuse of a Minor for the sexual abuse of a six year old family member that was under his direct supervision at the time of the incident.

The plea hearing was conducted by the Honorable Judge Finan in the Circuit Court for Allegany County, Maryland on Wednesday, February 22, 2017. Roger Dale Beeman was sentencing to fourteen years in prison.  As a crime of violence, he will have to serve 50% of his sentence before being eligible for parole. At sentencing, the victim’s mother addressed the court and read a victim impact statement that she wrote and read one that the victim, her daughter, had her counselor write for her.

Additionally, as part of his sentence, he will be placed on five years of supervised probation upon release with conditions that he register as a sex offender for life, he have no unsupervised contact with any minor children, no contact with the victim, and be evaluated for and submit to any sex offender treatment. 

This case was investigated by Detective Cory Beard of the Criminal Investigations Unit (C3I). Prosecuting the case for the State was Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Jacqueline R. Brandlen.  Mr. G.V. McKinley, Esq. represented the defendant.
