Cumberland Woman Arrested For Pedestrian Hit & Run In Roses Plaza

On January 22, 2019, the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Samantha Nelson, age 27 of Cumberland, MD.  The Arrest Warrant stemmed from a January 11, 2019 investigation into a pedestrian involved hit and run. On the aforementioned date at 7:25 pm, officers responded to Roses Plaza on Queen City Drive for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.  Officers learned from their investigation that Samantha Nelson was operating a minivan speaking with the female victim in the parking lot.  Nelson then pulled out with the female victim clinging to the vehicle window.  Nelson then struck a shopping cart corral and another parked vehicle before the female victim fell off.  Nelson then backed up striking the female victim before fleeing the area. At the conclusion of the investigation, the investigating officer applied for charges through District Court.  Subsequently, an Arrest Warrant was issued charging Nelson with first degree assault, failing to stop at the scene of an accident involving bodily injury, failing to return and remain at a bodily injury accident, fail of driver to render reasonable assistance to an injured person, fail to furnish required ID in bodily injury accident, fail to exhibit license to police during a injury and property damage accident, failing to report a bodily injury and property damage accident to police, and knowingly driving uninsured. Nelson was served with the Arrest Warrant and taken to District Court for her Initial Appearance. She was then remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on $3000 bond.
