DelFest Announcement Expected Next Week

May 22nd, 2020 by WCBC Radio

WCBC News has learned that an announcement pertaining to the status of the 2020 DelFest event is expected next week. In the meantime, a virtual DelFest began Thursday and continues through the  Memorial Day weekend to allow fans of the popular bluegrass and Americana music festival to view some of the highlight performances from it’s prior dozen years.  In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the McCoury family announced on April 2 that the 13th annual DelFest would not be held at the Allegany County Fairgrounds Memorial Day weekend- and that the hope is to reschedule the popular festival later in the year. Rob McCoury talked with WCBC News at the time about the challenges of trying to schedule a major outdoor festival during a pandemic…

An official announcement expected after the holiday weekend.

I am concerned that I will not be given the opportunity to pay $80 to hear some bands that 99% of the population has never heard of.

Isn’t it your choice to pay the admission fee or not attend?

DelFest is the biggest and best event of the year in Allegany County. No, the biggest event of the year is not the homecoming game. In fact, some say the city football rivalry is all but history. It’s been a non-competitive event for years and will likely continue to be so. DelFest has a huge economic benefit for the area. Anyone who says it’s a waste is profoundly misinformed.

So people have never heard of the bands? Then why does it draw people from all of the United States and the world?
Jim, I think what you meant to say was, “I’ve never heard of any of the bands so I am going to put on my pouty face and not like the Festival” That’s more like it.
Regardless of what the haters think, DelFest is a godsend on our community. Have any of you all personally met any of the McCoury family? Anyone? They are some of the nicest and genuine folks you could ever meet and genuinely care about our community.

Welchy- As far as the Casino goes, You’re comparing apples to oranges. It’s nothing a cesspool of greed and addiction. The few times I’ve been in there I’ve looked around, there are people who look like they haven’t left the slots in days. Sitting there like zombies, just feeding the machines hoping they can break even… It’s sickening.

Go see the sad faces of people lined up at ATM trying suck out their last dollar to gamble. See how it has caused divorce, bankruptcy and ruined lives.
