Recent requests brought before the Cumberland Mayor and City Council include making a change to the city’s anti-discrimination policy to specifically include members of the LGBTQA+ community.  Mayor Ray Morriss said the council will take up the matter for discussion, but feels the present policy covers everyone and revisions for specific groups could be never-ending…

 

“Once you start singling out particular groups to say, ‘well, we’re here to protect you.’ Well, what does that then say to other groups that are also like, ‘wait a minute – if you’re citing them, maybe we need to also be cited, too.’”
